Chapter 1 of 5
Four names within one story
Valdilana is a recent name that brings together older stories: the municipality was formed in 2019 from the merger of Mosso, Soprana, Trivero and Valle Mosso. Mosso, Soprana, Trivero and Valle Mosso keep their own identities and stories within the municipality of Valdilana.

Chapter 2 of 5
Water and work
Before Zegna and the chimneys, work here lay along the water. At Soprana the former Mulino Susta, established in 1627, ground grain and, in a building next to it, beat hemp with the same water wheel. Bartolomeo Sella, physician and philanthropist (1776–1861), was born at Mosso, a figure tied to the history of the valley.

Zegna and the mountain
At Trivero, in 1910, Ermenegildo Zegna founded his wool mill; in the 1930s he had more than five hundred thousand conifers planted on the mountain, with rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas. To cross it he opened a road: work began in 1938, resumed after the war and in 1953 reached Bielmonte, at about 1,500 metres. This is the Panoramica Zegna. Skiing at Bielmonte dates from 1957. Since 1993 that mountain has been the Oasi Zegna, about one hundred square kilometres open to everyone, and since 2014 it has had the patronage of FAI, the first private property of its kind.
Chapter 4 of 5
The rhododendrons
The Conca dei Rododendri is a small valley crossed by an easy path, designed by the landscape architect Pietro Porcinai, active here from the 1950s, and more recently extended by Paolo Pejrone. The flowers bloom from mid-May to June, in red, pink, white and purple. Further down, the landscape is that of the wool industry. The valley also remembers the flood of 2–3 November 1968, which hit Valle Mosso and Mosso hard.
Chapter 5 of 5
Casa Zegna and open-air art
At Trivero the wool mill and the founders' house stand side by side: Casa Zegna, inside the mill complex, houses the archive of fabric samples, photographs, documents and drawings. The story continues outdoors: since 2008 the Fondazione Zegna has scattered works of contemporary art across the landscape, with the project «All'Aperto». Alberto Garutti's benches carry portraits of the village's dogs, chosen and drawn by children: an ordinary presence that becomes a public work.
